Brittany Coastal Path - River Rance Charity Challenge
Book this trip as early as possible as it is extremely popular. Limited to
30 places
The River Rance Challenge is a weekend walk in a beautiful part of the
Brittany Coastal Path (which runs from Mont St Michel to Lorient - in total
150 miles!) Do not fear we have selected only part of this coastal path. The
section we will be walking is from Dinard to Dinan. The walking is easy but
you still need to be reasonable fit as the path undulates in parts.

We are based in the famous walled town of St Malo, which is an ideal
location for access to first class restaurants and fine shopping. We allow a
short time on Sunday for shopping in St Malo when most shops are open.
This is a social weekend and everyone we have taken in the past has said
what a great time they’ve had. On the weekend you combine walking with
eating and drinking quality French food and wine. The weekend is completed
with a celebratory lunch on the Sunday.
The weekend starts with travel from either Jersey or Guernsey with at least
one of the walk organizers acting as escort.
ITINERARY AND HIGHLIGHTS
On Friday 4th September meet at the Elizabeth Terminal at 18.15 to check in ready
for the 19.15 departure. Please remember to bring your sponsor money which
will be collected when you check in.
Day 1 – Friday
Travel and arrive in St Malo, then transfer to your hotel. We will be
staying at Hotel La Louvre within the old walls. Our arrival time at the
hotel will be approximately 22.00 as it is a late departure. Consequently,
we advise you to have a snack before you leave or on the boat or try to get
something late in St Malo which may be difficult although maybe OK in small
groups. Après the meal we will retire to the hotel.
Day 2 Saturday
We will have an early breakfast and be ready to leave the hotel by nine and
walk to the vedette (boat) to take us to Dinard. This will be a ten minute
boat trip to the seafront quay at Dinard. Here the walk will start at the
south end of the seafront at La Plage de L’Ecluse. The route is very flat to
begin with and follows around the side of the town, This is a lovely stretch
of walking. After about an hour the path breaks up and is a little more
undulating. The walk takes us south towards the barrage, we cross it and
then follow the river. The track is interesting as it takes you through
villages, woods and along the river bank itself.
At the end of the day a coach will pick us up and take us to Dinan where we
will go the hotel Le Challenge for the night. We will have time to rest and
then to a restaurant for an evening meal and a well earned glass of wine.
Day 3 - Sunday
We will depart at about 9.00am from the hotel after breakfast and then drive
to where we finished yesterday. We will follow the low-lying river valley
around this inlet and we will end up in Dinan. This walk will take between 2
to 3 hours. We will have a drink and our celebratory lunch. in Dinan. After
lunch we will catch the River bus back to St Malo. You will have a short
time for shopping in St Malo town. Then meet us to catch your ferry back
home.
We recommend this walking weekend to everyone and, in particular, couples
who like walking, good food and glass or two of French wine. Not a bad way
to spend a weekend and, of course, with our delightful company.
